“I know I’m not some movie star / Reciting some big script / But if you open your mind / I might be able to tell you something / It’s almost like you never listen to me / When I’m speaking you should listen to me.”
Canadian quintet Foxwarren return with the peppy tune “Listen2me!” The lead single from the forthcoming new album, “2,” out May 30 via Arts & Crafts, is one of the catchiest things I’ve heard lead vocalist Andy Shauf’s unmistakable voice on. It’s a collage-like track where pieces from each member – Shauf, Avery Kissick, Darryl Kissick, Dallas Bryson, and Colin Nealis – have been meticulously pasted over each other to create a wonderful sound.

There’s a lot happening in these 2 minutes and 43 seconds. Repeat listens reveal just how many layers there are, where boundaries between genre and song are constantly blurred. The accompanying music video directed by Winston Hacking perfectly visualizes this tactile and scrapbook-styled approach.
The end of May is a long way out to finally hear the other fourteen tracks included on the album. Hopefully Foxwarren will share another single soon, because this first offering is something that I’ll be playing a lot.
