GDW Jukebox: Autumn Additions

GDW Jukebox

It seems like it was just yesterday when we last updated the GDW Jukebox in time for the summer season. Yet here we are – autumn has arrived. Yes, my British upbringing defaults to using the term “Autumn” as opposed to “Fall” – Autumn just has such a seasonally appropriate ring to it, don’t you think, Eh?

With so many new singles floating around at GDW HQ – too many to feature here – given that we’re focused on the words Autumn and Additions, we’ll only share music from artists whose names contain the letter “A.” It’s a pretty frequently used vowel, so we still have an Abundance of Amazing tunes on offer – here’s a half-dozen fresh ones to whet your Appetites. Enjoy!

Aline Deanna, “Doin’ it for Country Music”

Okay, for the “F is for Fall” crowd, how about we call a truce right now and say “F is for Fiddle” instead? BC folk-country artist Aline Deanna offers up a serious dose of vintage fiddle with this late summer release – you’ll be hitting repeat on this one for a while.

Larochelle, “Sweet”

“F is also for Fusion” – we’re loving the fusion of folk and soul here on this release from QC-based artist Larochelle. “Sweet” is an intimate piece through which the artist pays tribute to his wife and celebrates the tenderness that brightens everyday life.

Mia Kelly (ft. Blair Dunlop), “Sea to the Moon”

Another fusion – this time between Gatineau, QC folk-blues artist Mia Kelly and UK folk artist Blair Dunlop – and one born from a co-write session during their recent tour together. Such a beautiful gut-wrenching ballad that further showcases Mia’s lyrical talents.

Gatlin Black, “One Last Chance”

Let the fusion of sounds and genres continue – and props here for originality. Pembroke, ON band Gatlin Black just released this debut single which combines both alt-rock sounds with sporadic bursts of 50s doowop. Yes, you read that correctly. A band to watch!!!

Kaeley Jade, “The Ceiling”

Giving weight to the letter “A” means that the inclusion of an Alberta-based musician is essential. Edmonton folk artist Kaeley Jade just released this new single and talk about landing on the GDW listening radar with a mighty thud. Stunning, stunning, stunning.

Cat Clyde, “Wild One”

ON- based indie-folk artist Cat Clyde returns with a new tune and a newly signed record deal (with Concord Records). “Processing a lot of changes in my life … I am connecting with the old parts of myself, some forgotten, and some unrealized,” Cat shares.

The British guy that crossed the ocean and crash landed in central Pennsylvania (to quote Greg Keelor, “And I wonder what am I doing here?”). As the youngest of four siblings, exposure to music from a very early age nurtured my passion and appreciation for many musical genres. Continuing to discover some amazingly diverse and talented musicians based in Canada, I gravitate to live music experiences and remain devoted to spreading the word about such a vibrant music scene.
