“I dreamed we were leaving / In the dead of night / Guided by the quiet / Out of sight / This feels like a memory / Far and familiar / You don’t seem worried / You’ve been here before.”
Summer may be here, but it really is passing by at an incredible pace. It seems that we spend an eternity enduring the dark days of winter, welcoming the onset of spring, yet holding out for the summer season – road trips, music festivals, the beach, the great outdoors, music festivals, vacationing, cookouts, and did I mention music festivals? But boom – here we are, barely into the season, yet it is already halfway done…
This is also our busiest season here at GDW. Just trying to juggle the balance between the abundance of new music releases with our own live concert coverage – and keep our site updated with fresh content during a time which we also seek out our own adventures, road trips, and time spent enjoying the great outdoors. First world problems, right? It’s true – the hustle and bustle of trying to cram everything into a three-month window can very quickly overwhelm us. Sometimes, we just need to find time to relax. To slow down. To inhale. Exhale…

Who knows if we triggered some kind of automatic distress beacon for this momentarily sought solitude, but Westminster, BC indie-folk duo Alma Narrows received the message loud and clear – and share news about “Where Do We Go,” their latest single officially released today. The music project of married couple Anna and Regan Luth, Alma Narrows answer our call with this delightfully charming, slow and steady experimental folk duet. “Better borrowed autumn air / Sentimental longing stare / Better winter follow close / Forest light, the shadows / Where do we go / We’re not home anymore / Where do we go / We’re not home anymore.”
“The writing of this song started on a weekend getaway on the Sunshine Coast in BC,” Regan shares. “And was recorded in Langley, BC at Fort Records Studio.” Anna (vocals/guitar/piano/drums) and Regan (vocals/violin) are accompanied by Jay Stewart (bass/synths/percussion), who also produced and engineered the single (with additional mastering by Andrew Downton at Railtown Mastering). Describing their sound as weaving the spirited twang of Americana with artful melancholy, this follow-up to their 2024 “Counting Pennies” single, I consider the musical equivalent of finding the eye of the storm. Of securing that fleeting moment of calmness, solace, and temporary escape from the carnage and summer craziness going on around us. “I dreamed we were leaving / In the dead of night / Guided by the quiet / Out of sight / This feels like a memory / Far and familiar / You don’t seem worried / You’ve been here before.”

The British guy that crossed the ocean and crash landed in central Pennsylvania (to quote Greg Keelor, “And I wonder what am I doing here?”). As the youngest of four siblings, exposure to music from a very early age nurtured my passion and appreciation for many musical genres. Continuing to discover some amazingly diverse and talented musicians based in Canada, I gravitate to live music experiences and remain devoted to spreading the word about such a vibrant music scene.
