It was probably around the summer of 2023 when we first heard music from Montréal-based electronic-pop duo Beau Nectar – and likely found on the SiriusXM radio Racines Musicales channel. With tickets in hand to see a rare Toronto performance by Québecois legend Daniel Bélanger later that fall, the last-minute addition of Beau Nectar as an opening act presented an opportunity to discover more about this recently formed duo firsthand.
Comprised of bilingual singer-songwriters Marie-Clo (QC) and éemi (SK), the duo made a strong first impression, drawing you into their mystical universe with both English and French compositions set to electronic accompanied beats. Sharing songs bound together by recurring themes of flora, fauna, and nature, Beau Nectar skillfully fused electronic textures with raw emotions, inviting their audience on an intimate and enveloping sonic adventure.

With this latest English language single, “Lion’s Mane” – officially released today, Marie-Clo and éemi are raring to electrify the senses once more. Combining “the energy of rock with the pop sensibility and raw poetry of their bilingual writing,” we quickly discover a song that “dives into a luminous surf-rock atmosphere where the percussion undulates like waves” (Official Press Release).
“Now look at me / I’m so bored / Now look at me / I’m so bored / Now look at me / I’m so bored.” Produced by Jace Lasek, with Olivier Fairfield and Philippe Charbonneau, the song expresses the inner turmoil of boredom, exhaustion, and the urgent need to feel – wrapped in their signature synth sounds and peppy-yet-visceral lyrics. “Now look at me / I’m doing good (I’m so bored) / Now look at me / I’m doing good (I’m so bored) / I’m doing good / I’m doing good / I’m doing good / I’m so bored…”

The British guy that crossed the ocean and crash landed in central Pennsylvania (to quote Greg Keelor, “And I wonder what am I doing here?”). As the youngest of four siblings, exposure to music from a very early age nurtured my passion and appreciation for many musical genres. Continuing to discover some amazingly diverse and talented musicians based in Canada, I gravitate to live music experiences and remain devoted to spreading the word about such a vibrant music scene.
