How can this be the final Wednesday of the month already??? Fortunately, we can legitimately state that we’ve saved “the best” for last! Toronto-based ‘party band’ Dwayne Gretzky have been long time faves here at GDW and are currently sharing some fabulous covers captured live-off-the-floor at their “Dwayne’s World” studio stage over on their dedicated YouTube channel.
With an interchangeable cast of vocalists and musicians, this band has earned a loyal following from a fanbase that craves their popular covers of tunes from the 70s, 80s, and 90s. Check out Carleigh Aikins (featured many times at GDW) on lead vocals here, showcasing her raw energy, potent pipes, and commanding stage presence as she and her bandmates deliver this raucous and rockin’ cover of a Tina Turner classic.
There are hundreds of tribute bands out there, performing frequently at your local venues and drawing crowds. With my personal preference for originality, you’ll rarely find me seeking admission to tribute shows – BUT Dwayne Gretzky are THE exception. I would love to catch this band in person one day. Local US venues take note – if tribute acts fill a chunk of your calendar, then raise the bar by bringing in these fine folks who are SIMPLY THE BEST in the business. I’ll be the first in line to buy that ticket…

The British guy that crossed the ocean and crash landed in central Pennsylvania (to quote Greg Keelor, “And I wonder what am I doing here?”). As the youngest of four siblings, exposure to music from a very early age nurtured my passion and appreciation for many musical genres. Continuing to discover some amazingly diverse and talented musicians based in Canada, I gravitate to live music experiences and remain devoted to spreading the word about such a vibrant music scene.
