Marie-Mai

We often combine February and Francophone music here at GDW, and 2026 looks to be no different. Taking great pride in sharing French language music coming out of Canada is always a priority here, because let’s face it, there is just SO MUCH great music to be discovered.

Popular QC singer, songwriter, and television personality Marie-Mai has been a long-time GDW favorite, yet her most recent “Sept” album (2024) somehow fell beneath the radar here. We have a copy on CD, naturally (which finally saw a few spins during my commute last week), but never found time to share some of her new music on our pages. Let’s remedy that right now with this recent cut to kick off our “Franco February” music video fest.

With a recording career that has seen shifts from pop to indie-rock, to alt-rock, and a full circle return to her early roots, “Combien de temps” finds Marie-Mai in fine form. Power ballads have been an underrated strength of hers, in my opinion, making this recent clip essential viewing. Not familiar with Marie-Mai? You’re in luck – she has a solid back catalogue out there for your listening pleasures.

The British guy that crossed the ocean and crash landed in central Pennsylvania (to quote Greg Keelor, “And I wonder what am I doing here?”). As the youngest of four siblings, exposure to music from a very early age nurtured my passion and appreciation for many musical genres. Continuing to discover some amazingly diverse and talented musicians based in Canada, I gravitate to live music experiences and remain devoted to spreading the word about such a vibrant music scene.
