Video Vault: Mini Movies from Montréal (and one from Toronto too)

October 2025 Video Vault

We’re sharing a bunch of recent videos from Canadian Indigenous artists all month long with our Wednesday social media features, but the Video Vault is still packed with other fresh submissions too. Time to dust a few off and give them a well-deserved airing here today…

The Dears, “Tomorrow And Tomorrow”

We’re excited knowing that Montréal, QC pop-rockers The Dears are back in the spotlight – with a new album and Canadian tour planned for next month – and happier still to lead off this edition of Video Vault with this teaser of new music, “Tomorrow and Tomorrow.” Vocalist Murray Lightburn’s baritone bounces fabulously alongside the soaring instrumentation and dramatic flair that the band are highly known for. Welcome back!!!

Geneviève Racette, “Common Denominator”

More new music out of Montréal is never a bad thing, this time courtesy of Geneviève Racette, who shares this haunting tune about the painful realization that someone who always plays the victim might, in fact, be the problem. “[This] is for anyone who’s ever been gaslit, blamed, or manipulated,” shares Racette. “It’s about realizing that when someone has a story where they’re the victim, maybe the one common thread is them.”

James Correa, “Mothering”

Okay, one more from QC, and then we’ll hop over to Toronto, I promise. Montréal folk-rocker James Correa recently shared this video for “Mothering,” a track taken from his latest “Bonny Park” album release. “I wanted to see if I was capable of doing an album entirely by myself,” James shares. “The most challenging aspect was producing my own performances – being honest in my editing – it was frustrating at times, but worth it.”

Steve Mahabir, “Away”

A veteran of Toronto’s indie scene, Steve Mahabir shares this cool video for “Away,” a teaser of new music from his forthcoming “Peace Love War & Hate” album later this year – one featuring John Borra, and Blue Rodeo’s Michael Boguski and Glenn Milchem. “Away is a powerful song about love and addition,” Steve shares. “About trying to save yourself and your relationships when addiction is in the room.”

The British guy that crossed the ocean and crash landed in central Pennsylvania (to quote Greg Keelor, “And I wonder what am I doing here?”). As the youngest of four siblings, exposure to music from a very early age nurtured my passion and appreciation for many musical genres. Continuing to discover some amazingly diverse and talented musicians based in Canada, I gravitate to live music experiences and remain devoted to spreading the word about such a vibrant music scene.
