We’re delighted to premiere “Half a Heart,” the new single from T. Buckley. A roots singer/songwriter based in Alberta, T. Buckley will release his fifth studio album, “Miles We Put Behind,” on 19 October 2018, and will tour western Canada in October and November.
Buckley and esteemed engineer/producer Howard Bilerman (Arcade Fire) met at the Banff Centre for the Arts in March of 2017. It took just one brief collaborative demo recording session, while at the Centre, for them to make the call to team up on Buckley’s new project.
According to Buckley, “The album as a whole is a series of stories and character sketches that speak to the challenges, struggles and triumphs that we experience as we journey through life. Half a Heart fits this description as well…it was written about a very specific situation but the yearning desire for companionship and connection is something we all go through and can relate to.”
The final product has not fallen short of expectations. “Miles We Put Behind” is, in notable ways, an extension of and a departure from Buckley’s previous work. It is a unique collaboration that beautifully combines his Roots influences and honest songwriting with some of Montreal’s most impressive indie players.
About “Half a Heart,” Buckley says, “Sitting in his living room, an older man started to share his story with me… his struggles, his memories, and his past. He told me how he was separated from his brother at a young age, and reconnected after twenty years apart. As I sat there listening to him talk about the powerful experience of reuniting, I thought about how we all have this yearning desire for companionship or connection, and how we all struggle when it’s missing. Whether you’ve lost a soul mate, family member, or been separated from a loved one, we all know the feeling, like living with Half A Heart.”
