#TuesdayTunesDay: New Song Roundup, 15 May 2018

#TuesdayTunesDay

We have a variety of new songs to share with you this time around, so pour a cup of your favorite morning drink and settle in for some new tunes.

Munroe, “Fake Out”

Munroe (originally from Toronto but currently based in Los Angeles) has recently debuted a new video, “Fake Out,” from her recent album “Oblivion.” It was directed by American artist, writer, and filmmaker Laura Maxwell and is a music video meets short film that tells the story of a young woman escaping life in the landscape of a small North American factory town. It represents an examination of the female self and the many facets of female identity. It is also the director’s personal ode to mortality, loss, and the many regenerations of self we experience in our lifetime. (Kathleen) Munroe is also known for her work as an actress on the Amazon original series ‘Patriot’ as well as some feature length films.

Basement Revolver, “Baby”

Ontario trio Basement Revolver have announced the long anticipated release of their debut LP “Heavy Eyes.” On the album, the band invites us into their genre-blending world where the past and present meet alongside poignant, yearning lyrics. In anticipation of the release the band has shared the intimate first track “Baby.” Now available to stream and share, the song is an expansive, echoing anthem, laden with honest emotion. Heavy Eyes will be available in full on August 24th via Fear of Missing Out Records and Sonic Unyon Records.

Loïc April, “Fais de ma tête ton jouet”

Less than a month after releasing his self-titled debut album, Loïc April is back with a video for “Fais de ma tête ton jouet.” The young singer, who was described by La Presse as great addition to the province’s emerging music scene, offers a music video that begins with a slow motion shot of a young man in an unfortunate situation and ends with a surprise. Director Pablo Escobar Tuduri creates a visuel universe that is bewildering, enigmatic and twisted. Produced by Jonathan Charette (Groenland, Simon Kingsbury), the album offers indie-rock soundscapes blended with shoegaze, post-punk and powerpop influences.

Danielle Duval, “Lose It/Subway Wall”

Danielle Duval has released a new video for her songs “Lose It” and “Subway Walls.” The video was directed by Christopher Mills (Modest Mouse, Interpol, Broken Social Scene, Metric) and takes the unorthodox approach to combine two songs in one video. LOSE IT sees Duval get lost in the subway while self-contemplating a lost opportunity for Love. Danielle splits into ghosts of herself, dancing, performing, materializing and re-materializing as the world around her gyrates, and shifts to the rhythm of the track(s). The clip makes a seamless segue into SUBWAY WALL – a more serious and contemplative portrait of Ms. Duval, which gyrates in glitchy, stutter pixel-crushed counter-rhythms. (Best viewed in a dark room with headphones).

Lindi Ortega, “Liberty”

Lindi Ortega has unveiled the video for “Liberty,” the title track from her critically acclaimed three-part concept album. Shot in Nashville and directed by Travis Nicholson, executive producer on CMT’s ‘Still the King,’ the atmospheric video pays tribute to old Western movies but with a modern twist. “It was important for me that we had wild horses in the video because, for me, wild horses represent ultimate freedom and liberation, as well as physical strength and beauty,” says Ortega.
