JUNO-Award nominee Katie Tupper has been making waves on social media since 2022. With her voice finally hitting the shores of GDW, it’s no wonder that followers of this Saskatoon, SK artist have helped her go viral. Recently selected for Apple Music’s ‘Up Next Canada,’ Tupper has no shortage of new music to share with the world.
Released just last month, her latest single “Original Thoughts” was produced in collaboration with Felix Fox (BADBADNOTGOOD) and Justice Der – and is layered with classic analogue sounds, which is expected to be the groundwork for her upcoming album due out later this year.

“Original Thoughts” is groovy and soulful, with Katie’s play on words leaving just enough room for interpretation, allowing listeners to enjoy – or dare I say – to even imagine the experience she lyrically unfolds. “This song captured my feelings after this intimate connection that I had for the first time,” says Tupper. “I sort of felt my world shifting, and my lines between curiosity and certainty became redrawn. Something that always felt really heavy and confusing became incredibly clear to me in the span of basically 72 hours, and I wrote to try to capture the excitement I felt.”
Katie’s experience is nothing short of divine as she sings about how this person reached her on new levels: “I’ve never had original thoughts but you’re breaking through / Never heard a word from God, must speak through you / Silly thinking how I lived and breathed before meeting / You came in and knocked me off my feet.” Just like an exciting new experience that comes around unexpectedly, so does the playful guitar that makes itself known by sneaking around between words and lines.

Jess has always enjoyed a wide range of music genres and eras. Connecting deeply with classical music, she played cello from grade school through high school, and although no longer actively playing, her affinity for finding an emotional connection to music is still strong. Residing in central PA, she is new to the Canadian music scene and enjoys listening to new artists as a way to break away from “the usual.” Jess is an avid yogi who often finds a sliver of peace while on the yoga mat with good music playing in the background.
