CFMA Winners Moscow Apartment Release New Single, “Be You”

Moscow Apartment - Be You

Moscow Apartment have already racked up awards across Canada since the autumn release of their EP. Today, they launch “Be You,” their first single since winning a Canadian Folk Music Award, a Toronto Independent Music Award, and the grand prize in Slaight Music’s It’s Your Shot.

An evolution from singer-songwriter to indie-folk-rock powerhouse is evident in the single (one of a few to come before a sophomore album in early 2019). Brighid Fry and Pascale Padilla’s songwriting stays at the core of rich arrangements, built out with drummer Dov Beck-Levine and bassist/vocalist Melissa Paju.

Their songs explore loneliness and friendship, body image & identity, and suffocation in big cities. They take us to the movies and sneak into ghost towns. They share the perspective of two women in the midst of adolescence, whose wisdom and humor has netted them accolades and the support of an array of musicians (Michael Louis Johnson, Anna Ruddick, Dani Nash, Chloe Doucet, and Curtis Chaffey played on their EP). They are currently touring western Canada in June supporting Juno-winning The Good Lovelies, between gigs at the CBC Music Festival and Camp Wavelength.
