New Single: Terence Jack, “Heart in Head out”

Terence Jack - Heart in Head out

“THE WORLD NEEDS JOY”  “THE WORLD NEEDS FREEDOM”  “THE WORLD NEEDS TO HEAL”

Vancouver, BC indie-folk artist Terence Jack releases the single “Heart in Head out” today, a glorious synth-heavy anthem destined for your summer listening pleasures. This latest single, the first since last October’s “Bloom,” sees Terence continue to redefine his original west coast indie-rock roots, merging a little rock gospel groove and a polished wave of synths all at once into his current repertoire.  “Heart in Head out is a perfect antidote to the never-ending dread that has seized many of us during these trying times,” he shares.  “My song was crafted in both Vancouver and Los Angeles before the world, as we knew it, shut down.”

Written and produced by Daniel Klenner (Dear Rouge/Dan Mangan), “Heart in Head out” offers some much needed positivity as we seek to break free from our current fears and uncertainties during this global state of flux.  “I’m stuck inside / Turned off the light / See I always want to stay away / But I hesitate,” Terence recites, accompanied by some light synths and instrumentation.  “Waiting for something / Waiting for something / Hating that I can’t walk through the door / Waiting for something / When nothing is coming / But I can’t wait anymore.”  And in true Terence Jack fashion, cue the explosive synth-pop beats that lead into the chorus, stepping into the height of 1980s post-New Wave rhythmic territory with these incredible, foot-tapping sounds.

I found the key / Way down in me / I was always getting in my way / Now I’m breaking free,” Terence continues.  “Waiting for something / Waiting for something / Hating that I can’t walk through the door / Waiting for something / When nothing is coming / But I can’t wait anymore.”  “This triumphant, infectious tune evokes breaking free from fear and doubt and emerging energized, while embracing the road ahead,” he adds.  “From darkness and fear, it brings the listener into the light.  From the Coronavirus to systemic racism against Black people, the world needs equality.”  With your senses abuzz from the impressive synths, be prepared to stop dead in your tracks as Terence intensifies his vocals to deliver the brief, but powerful bridge:  “I’m scared of death I’m dreaming / I’m scared of death I’m dreaming / Go get your heart in / Go get your heart in / Get your head out.

Following his highly-regarded 2016 “Never Get Back” debut EP, Terence hopes to release his upcoming full-length album, “Bloom,” later this summer via Tonic Records, and based on these singles to date, we cannot wait for this one.  Having had the pleasure of catching a live set from Terence Jack here in PA back in 2018, this is an artist that we strongly recommend you seek out and add to your own musical radar.
