Skydiggers Announce New Album, Single, and Tour

Warmth of the Sun

In what was already a fantastic week for Canadian music, The Skydiggers announced last week that they are releasing a new album in October.  Additionally, they plan to tour in support of the new project beginning in November.  This terrific news was accompanied by the release of a new single, “Warmth of the Sun” (the title track), which is a powerful and evocative meditation inspired by Gord Downie’s “Secret Path.”

“I had been thinking a lot about truth and reconciliation with First Nations and aboriginals in Canada, which was sparked by my friend Gord’s project,” says guitarist Josh Finlayson. “I spent a lot of time working on that and trying to figure out what I wanted to say. That song took the better part of a year for me to finish. But it was a song that needed that time, musically and lyrically.”

The album was produced by Michael Timmins (Cowboy Junkies) and includes songwriting contributions from Tom Wilson, Thompson Wilson, Stephen Fearing, and Kevin Douglas, as well as covers of The Tragically Hip and The Hollies.  “Warmth of the Sun” will be released October 20 on CD, download, and (yippee!) vinyl.

Team GDW heard The Skydiggers live for the first time this summer.  If we were slow to get on their fan train (only because of the wealth of Canadian music available), we are definitely now on board 100%, and we are eagerly anticipating this new release!
