October may be almost over! Outdoor temperatures may be plummeting as we deal with shorter days, darker nights, and all that. However, if you are currently rooting through your closets to dig out sweaters, hoodies, and perhaps even *shock* a coat, take fifteen minutes and allow us to help keep those cold weather thoughts at bay just a little longer with our four lingering memories of summer clips.
Brooks & Bowskill, “Blissful State Of Mind”
When seeking out a clip to lead off this month’s installment of our Video Vault feature, the timely arrival of this first teaser of new music from the husband/wife duo of Brittany Brooks and Jimmy Bowskill was too hard to resist. And how about the vintage visuals found here? “We had a lot of fun … cruising in our 80’s Chevy through the rolling hills that surround our farmhouse recording studio,” the duo share. “The sunset soaked the valley in pink and orange light, it truly was bliss!”
Chubby Hearts Club, “J’me dis quoi”
Sometimes new music just falls into your lap when you least expect it – like this fresh release from Guillaume Forbes, which came to our attention thanks to his friend (and bandmate) Quinn Bachand dropping an announcement into his own social media feeds. If you remain reluctant to let your summer memories fade away, and thoughts of kayaking out on an open lake as the sun sets puts a smile on your face – well, this latest cut from Guillaume was seemingly tailor-made just for you.
Andy Stochansky, “God’s Tree”
Ask me to pick a memorable mainstream Canadian single from the early part of this century, and there’s a strong chance that “22 Steps” from Toronto (now Los Angeles-based) artist Andy Stochansky – such fond memories of that entire “Five Star Motel” album. Now, imagine my surprise when learning of Andy’s new single (almost two decades later) – “God’s Tree” – a stunning teaser from his LOOOONG overdue next studio album, “Poetry of Birds,” scheduled for release early next year. Welcome back!
Angela Saini, “Wanna Be You”
Talking of Toronto musicians, when we were seeking out an upbeat country-pop tune to close this edition of Video Vault, lo and behold, Toronto’s own Angela Saini stepped up to the plate with plenty of catchy hooks and toe-tapping melodies for our journey home. The track was inspired by self-discovery, along with “being confident in being unique and not conforming to be like anyone else,” she shares. “[It’s about] the joy of finding myself and loving her for who she is.” Say “hi” to your repeat button.
The British guy that crossed the ocean and crash landed in central Pennsylvania (to quote Greg Keelor, “And I wonder what am I doing here?”). As the youngest of four siblings, exposure to music from a very early age nurtured my passion and appreciation for many musical genres. Continuing to discover some amazingly diverse and talented musicians based in Canada, I gravitate to live music experiences and remain devoted to spreading the word about such a vibrant music scene.
