While we don’t have an “official” theme for our Wednesday video features this month, we kind of do – we’re bringing you some of the FINEST new cuts from across the Canadian provinces. No filler tracks here – prepare to be dazzled all through March.
We discovered the music of Cape Breton, NS roots-rocker Elyse Aeryn last month and really wanted to include this tune in a feature back then (but alas, it was not formally released). Discovering an official music video for “Cry” over the weekend, well, talk about being bumped to the front of the line with no hesitation.
As a sucker for blues rock, I’m happy to let Elyse demonstrate her vocal prowess here, one up there with other Canadian powerhouses such as Samantha Martin, Meghan Parnell, and Sadie Campbell. “I don’t believe I deserve to be loved the way I need / So show me you’re bleeding / Your eyes are misleading / If this is worth keeping don’t hold back…”
I’m going out on a limb and stating that the future of this genre is in solid hands here – Elyse is the real deal, and boy, I’m gonna be hitting repeat on this cut for a while…

The British guy that crossed the ocean and crash landed in central Pennsylvania (to quote Greg Keelor, “And I wonder what am I doing here?”). As the youngest of four siblings, exposure to music from a very early age nurtured my passion and appreciation for many musical genres. Continuing to discover some amazingly diverse and talented musicians based in Canada, I gravitate to live music experiences and remain devoted to spreading the word about such a vibrant music scene.
