The benefit of running this little blog of ours is the non-stop exposure to new Canadian music – whether it be from our social media feeds, recommendations from streaming platform algorithms, random YouTube videos, or official press releases – you name it, the music somehow lands on our radar. But sometimes, the old-fashioned ways remain effective – as I discovered last fall when hearing a tune burst across the airwaves from a radio station – one that quickly earned my full attention and fast-tracked its way into a Snappy Singles article.
That tune happened to be “Get My Baby Back,” a peppy retro-soul number from Nelson, BC Yacht-Pop Princess Paris Pick, and one that very quickly lodged itself under my skin, earning many repeat spins in the process. The vintage soul cues cut right to the core. This fuzz-guitar driven tune impossible to ignore. Talk about being left hungry for much, much more.
Releasing her follow-up single, “The Things That You Do,” just a week ago, Paris once again delivers a phenomenal taste of new music that shall be found on her upcoming “Third Time’s A Charm” album. Better still, we received advance notice via her official press release – no playing roulette with the radio dial this time – and have been spinning this one constantly for days now.

Per the press release: This shimmering, introspective gem dives deep into the complexities of love, self-reflection, and longing. Melding whip-smart melodies with raw emotional depth, the track tells a deeply personal story while remaining universally relatable.” So, what’s our verdict? It sure does… And with a side of doo-wop hints to boot…
Teaming up once again with Yukon-based producer Jordy Walker, where the previous single found Paris lamenting on a crush gone wrong, the narrative shifts to the notion of a relationship gone wrong. “I wrote it during a turbulent time in my life, right after a major breakup,” Paris reminisces. “While it might sound like an optimistic love song, for me, it came from a place of frustration as I tried to process the unraveling of my relationship.”
Not indifferent to her previous release, Paris shares a fun and colorful music video to accompany the song – her stunning organic visuals matching the mood perfectly, whilst tapping into this desire for love and longing. “We shot the video in just a few hours, “Paris adds in closing. “It’s carefree and easygoing – exactly the vibe I wanted to convey. Writing this track was my way of turning that sadness into something more carefree and hopeful. Deep down, I was longing for love to be effortless – no words necessary.”

The British guy that crossed the ocean and crash landed in central Pennsylvania (to quote Greg Keelor, “And I wonder what am I doing here?”). As the youngest of four siblings, exposure to music from a very early age nurtured my passion and appreciation for many musical genres. Continuing to discover some amazingly diverse and talented musicians based in Canada, I gravitate to live music experiences and remain devoted to spreading the word about such a vibrant music scene.
